These are guidelines for #UDIC channel operators. These rules adhere to all levels of access. This means that people with access to the channelbot should try to enforce this policy within their abilities.
We are trying to be a friendly channel, and we expect the operators of #UDIC to help keep it that way. This is a responsibility. It does not only extend to others, but is a guideline for how operators should behave themselves, too.
Guideline #1: No fighting. No insults.
Private, personal fights are not welcome in the channel. Don't allow flinging of insults or abuse of people. This doesn't mean users can't have a healthy disagreement about something. But it has to stay on the level. As soon as it gets offensive or abusive, the border has been crossed.
Guideline #2: No foul, offensive language. No spamming.
Excessive ranting, swearing or usage of offensive language is frowned upon. Other channel users may be annoyed by such behavior. This doesn't mean people can't be in a bad mood about something. This doesn't mean users should be punished for using a four-letter word. But they shouldn't overdo it. Same goes for spamming. Quoting large texts or ASCII art is a no-no. While this can happen once or sometimes in agreement with the channel, it should be kept at a minimum.
Guideline #3: No sexual explicitness.
We have people of different ages and both sexes in the channel. Explicit netsex or sexual insinuations are not appreciated in #UDIC. Again, we are not absolutistic. Common signs of affection are tolerated in the same way as they would be in public. Remember, #UDIC is a public place.
Operator actions:
What should operators do in case of transgressions (this applies to offending users and offending operators equally)?
- Keep an extensive log (preferably with timestamp) and make sure you take note of the offenders address (do a /whois
for that). - After the 1st offense warn the user(s) about his/their behavior and inform about the channel policy.
- If a user continues to violate channel policy user should be kicked from the channel.
- If even a kick does not keep the user from abusing the channel or its users, the user should be banned for 24 hours. An email with logs should be sent to the Channel Admins via . If the problem cannot be resolved by the Channel Admins for any reason within a day, the ban may be extended for the shortest possible period within which a Channel Admin will be available.
- If the offender is an operator himself, using his op access to abuse the channel or its users, then logs (preferably fro several independent sources) should be sent to the Channel Admins via to enable them to resolve the problem.
